Venom lines up Jamaica’s Macka Diamond for Valentine’s show

They have hosted almost every visiting international artiste’s meet-and-greet party of recent. That must have showed Club Venom’s management’s that they could actually make a killing flying in some not-so-big names with some good songs. And first on Club Venom’s list is Jamaican dancehall singer Charmaine Munroe aka Macka Diamond.

Diamond also has other stage names like Lady Cham, Lady Mackerel, and the Money Goddess.
Born in Kingston and raised in Portmore, Diamond says she was influenced by female artists like Mama Nancy, Lady Ann, Lady Junie and Lady G.

With Lady Junie’s help, Diamond got a chance to record her Don Girl single that introduced her to the charts.
After a string of singles and  collaborations, she took on the stage name Macka Diamond after her 2003 single Tek Con, which was a protest record to convicted Jamaican dancehall maestro Vybz Kartel’s chauvinistic Tek Buddy track.
Diamond released a new album titled Don’t Disturb Mi in 2012, but her 2013 single Dye Dye is one of the biggest club bangers in Kampala today.

According to the club manager Gareth Onyango, one will be able to watch Diamond perform for Shs30,000 and Shs50,000 VIP on Valentine’s Day at Club Venom.
Although Diamond is not known by so many local music lovers, Gareth told us that Club Venom DJs have already embarked on a campaign to make sure fans know other songs by Diamonds before February 14.
