Last week, promoter Balam Barugahare graduated with a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Cavendish University. Amidst the excitement, the concert promoter and businessman took some time to chat with friends, most of whom were from the entertainment industry.
We overheard Balam telling his friends that he is set to drag singer Nince Henry to court over a Shs20m debt. “This boy came to me and wanted me to buy off his album launch concert; but I refused. I felt he was not yet up to the level of holding an album launch. But he instisted and told me to lend him money to organise the concert himself. But several months later, he tells me, he is still looking for the money,” Balam said.
He indicated that if Nince Henry does not pay his money in the next few weeks, his lawyers will gladly take up the matter.
However, when contacted, Nince Henry laughed as he told us that Balam is like a bank to artistes, “Many people, especially in the music industry are indebted to Balam.”
The Mpola Mpola singer told us that he is aware of Balam’s debt. “Balam is demanding Shs18m not Shs20m. I will pay him, but I haven’t got the money now.”
