Sudhir Ruparelia has just been named a dollar billionaire and one of the 25 richest Africans by Forbes. His fortune now stands at $1.1b. So, it is no surprise that his daughter Meera’s white wedding is going down in the history books as Uganda’s most expensive wedding. It is estimated to cost about $2m (about Shs5b) – pocket change to the tycoon. There were no wedding meetings to fundraise as the norm is in Uganda (of course no one expects the Sudhirs to hold wedding meetings – popularly known as “begging meetings”).
In fact the Ruparelias are in London ahead of Meera’s civil wedding ceremony to Raavi Kotecha that will be held at the luxury Mandarin Oriental Hotel next Thursday, November 28.
According to our sources, only 140 people, including the two families and their close friends will witness the ceremony.
But a bigger do is organised for Saturday, November 30 where Sudhir will host 900 guests at the Grosvenor, one of the most exclusive hotels in London.
Our source divulged that some of the top performers in London have been hired to entertain guests.
And the party will continue in Kampala with a grand reception on Valentine’s Day next year.
