In 2010, South African Airways Country Manager, Yogi Birigwa initiated an idea of hosting South African Wine Makers in Uganda.
Birigwa argues that she came up with the idea because of the high consumption of South African wines in Uganda; and therefore it would be a good opportunity for wine makers to interact with local consumers in Uganda. .
The fourth African Wine Festival will be taking place this evening at Kampala Serena Hotel. According to a press release, the festival registered more sponsors in South African Tourism as well as Wines of South Africa. And from just three wine makers in 2010, the event has managed to attract a total of 24 top South African wine makers who flew in all the way from the vineyards of Cape Town.
We managed to take a peep at the list and it included renown leading red wine makers Kannonkop Wine, Graham Becks (the makers of Obama and Mandela’s favourite wine), Distell, DGB, Napier, Township, Oldenburg, and Robertson, among others. As usual, attendance will be strictly by invite. And if you haven’t received your invite yet, you will miss out on mixing and mingling with the celebrity wine makers alongside Kampala’s A-listers.
