The Ugandan stand-up comedy industry has grown so much in just a few years. From pioneer Pablo, we got several comedians under The Crackers outfit that made it on different continental platforms. From Kampala Comedy Club Live, a show that was screened on DSTV for several weeks, many comedians started going places including Nigeria and South Africa that is home to some of Africa’s biggest comedians. Patrick Salvado Idringi, Ann Kansime and Pablo have been the biggest players having plied their trade in different African countries where they have performed on big comedy shows.
However, surprisingly, or should we say according to the website, officiallaughs.com, Daniel Omara is a better comedian than other Ugandans. According to its rankings, Omara is at No.19 among Africa’s biggest comedians. Yet Uganda is not the only country in shock as highly rated Nigerian comedian Basket Mouth was ranked second after South African Trevor Noah. Nigeria’s Klint the Drunk is number five while Kenya’s Eric Omondi stands at number nine.
And our very own Salvado endorsed the rankings by congratulating Omara for representing Uganda.
