The Music Video: Prophecy – Exodus

Exodus

This music video, which was directed by J Blessing in Kenya is not stingy when it comes to investing money to make a high quality video. The storyline rotates around Exodus announcing the prophecy that this is the year God has chosen to set the captives free. And for a cinematic video that took Shs46m to shoot, it’s worth the amount.

The video employs a number of locations, from streets in Kenya to the Savannah Grasslands (my best location in this music video). The high-rise buildings in the video coupled with Exodus dancing on top of a car are remarkable. The canon dances are neatly choreographed and entertaining without a flaw. Exodus in his white costumes has this star image, not forgetting the close-up shots in this music video.

The idea of Masai warriors standing in the background of Exodus at the grassy mountainous location enhance the beauty of this music video. To further send the message across, there are various people chained and as the video progresses, they are set free. And when it comes to the lighting and colouring, the video simply nails it. It relies on the natural light where need be, and employs the artificial lighting effects during the night scenes shot on the Nairobi streets. The special effects prove that the makers of this video did a great job at the post-production editing point.

Well, the Prophecy music video shows that you can have an expensive, good for all audiences video that manages to stand out effortlessly. And if you watched R. Kelly’s Storm is Over video, the mountainous location in this video borrows a concept and Africanises it with expertise. Exodus’s energy also gets the viewer in high spirits, talk of a contagious video.
