What’s the name of your business?
Phyphy’s Classic Decorations and Designs. We deal in a number of things including decorating at functions and parties. We also deal in African jewellery and musical performances.
How much did you invest in this business?
For decorations, I invested Shs800,000 and for the jewellery part of it, it was roughly Shs300,000.
How much is it worth now?
I can’t be precise, but it’s between Shs3m and Shs6m.
Did you go to school for this kind of business?
I was trained to do this by Sophie Gombya, a renowned Ugandan artiste.
What are some of the challenges you find in doing this kind of business?
First and foremost, it’s hectic. I have to move from place to place looking for clients and ensuring that the function is moving on well. Also, most clients bargain too much, leaving a small profit margin, yet at the end of it all, they want the best quality services.
And the positives?
I have got many connections from this business. I have travelled a lot and I take care of myself through Phyphy’s classic decorations and designs.
How much do you charge for your services?
Well, it depends on factors like location and size of the place, how many people are expected and so on. For the jewellery, the cheapest goes for Shs25,000 and the highest is Shs50,000.
Where are you located?
We are located on Shumuk House, Level One, Room Three.
