Julia Impressions.
What do you deal in?
We make jewellery, like necklaces, anklets, earrings, bracelets and bangles.
When did you open up your business?
Well, it was in 2011, when I had just finished university but previously, I was tailoring interior design accessories, which I started doing in 2009.
Where is Julia Impressions located?
On Buganda Road, just before Hotel Triangle, below 1000 Cups.
How much capital did you invest in this business and how much is it worth?
I started with Shs1m but it’s now worth about Shs10m.
What challenges are you facing?
There is a lot of competition in the market. Materials and tools are not available most of the times, and there is a lot of duplicate jewerelly on the market that is sold cheaply.
How much do your items go for?
It depends on the material, style and the time you want it, but to break it down for you; the cheapest is Shs5,000 and the most expensive is Shs50,000.
Did you study this kind of work?
I did a post graduate in jewellery making in 2011 but I had previously done industrial training at Kyambogo University in 2009.
What else do you do?
I’m also into tailoring interior design materials, designing dresses, skirts, tops and craft bags in all shapes and colours.
Where do you see this business a couple of years from now?
I want to see myself on a whole different level, with a big shop where I can display my products for all to see because the shop I have now is small and thus limits my display.
