Mr. Vegas
Bruking it down with the man. From hits like Heads High in the 1990s, I Am Blessed, to the more recent Bruk it Down, Mr Vegas has curved his place on the dancehall platform by infusing other genres like Hip Hop and Soca to his music. Edgar R. Batte recently spoke to him, ahead of his performance at tomorrow’s Street Jam.
Are you excited to be coming to Uganda?
I am very excited to return to Uganda, I had lots of fun the last time.
What should your fans in Uganda expect at the concert?
My fans in Uganda can expect lots of blessings from my song “I am blessed”.
I will give them mad energy, so I hope the people have long stamina.
What do you love about Uganda?
What I love about Uganda is Uganda Ladies!!!!!!!
What has been your experience in Uganda before?
The last time I had the opportunity to walk the streets and get to know my brothers and sisters in Uganda.
What is your favourite moment on stage?
My favorite moment on stage is to have the people singing my hits with me.
Which Ugandan artistes do you know?
I am looking forward to getting to know Ugandan music. My last promoter is the artiste I know, he is the general [Mega Dee].
Will you be open to do any music collaborations with Ugandan artistes?
If I hear good music I am always ready to work, so if I feature with any artist, it must be good.
In your opinion what makes a good artiste?
A good artist stays humble and loves the music, not just the money.
What milestones have you achieved as an artiste and what is your inspiration?
I am still working to reach a milestone, I am only a quarter mile, but I am blessed to be touring the world. But talking about inspiration… my inspiration comes from God and nature.
Away from music, how is Mr. Vegas?
I am doing super good as a person. God is good.
How did you come up with the stage name Mr. Vegas?
My cousin gave me the name Mr Vegas, he teased me that I play football like a Vegas dancer.
