Academy Award winner and celebrated director Steven Spielberg brings a historical drama, Lincoln, whose plot is based on one of America’s greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln.
It is also partly based on author Doris Kearns Goodwin’s biography Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. In the film, the director attempts to uncover the final four months of Lincoln’s life, focusing on the President’s efforts in January 1865 to have the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution passed by the United States House of Representatives.
It therefore tackles statesmanship, politics and Lincoln’s contribution and efforts to create one the world’s greatest democracies. The food for thought for you and me is what we are to pick and learn from this political piece, which is that democracy is about the people.
Daniel Day-Lewis leads the cast as Lincoln in a movie, critiques have described as entertaining but more, emotionally seductive. Day-Lewis has received applause for pulling off such a strong role which won him an Oscar award for Best Actor, four BAFTA Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and two Golden Globes Award for Best Actor.
