The music industry on Monday night registered a big loss in the names of Geofrey Dungu aka Geoffrey Dandalu. Dandalu was a top bass guitarist and a music producer. Dandalu shot to fame during the days of Jeckacki band and he played for several top and upcoming musicians. Jeckacki band was the official band for the monthly Club Silk Unplugged nights and it was also responsible for the success of several top musicians’ tours in Europe and America.
Jeckacki band is responsible for nurturing musicians including Maurice Hassa, Aziz Azion and Sweet Kid. Other members of Jeckacki included Clyff Kizito and Richard Jemba Jemba. Dandalu is said to have died after suffering a mental disorder. According to reliable sources, by the time of his death, Dandalu was living with a mental disorder and he also had another ailment that he had lived with for quite a long time.
Critics have come out to criticise top musicians for failing to help Dandalu even when his relatives approached several of them and alerted them of the guitarist’s plight.
“They had numerous concerts in Masaka, but no musician bothered to check on him! They watched on as the talented musician suffered a debilitating disease and a mental lapse before being taken to the village to die. Now they cue the eulogies. Shame on you musicians!” a source said.
RIP Geofrey Dandalu!
