What does Digital Events do?
We are into events management, providing sound, lights, stage, projectors and projector screens. We also provide heavy-duty generators for every function. We also have a band with all equipment.
Where are you located?
We are located in Old Kampala, opposite St. Matia Mulumba Church, near Jomayi Property Consultants.
Why Old Kampala?
It’s convenient. It’s also a prime place because it’s near the city centre and rent is affordable. I have both an office and a store for my equipment. Security is also assured.
How much did you invest in Digital Events and how much is it worth?
I started with Digital Computers, which was dealing in photocopying, computer maintenance and repairing, CD burning and printing but to start it up, I invested around Shs7m, but it is now worth about Shs85m.
How many employees do you in your company?
Well, I have eight permanent workers, but others are outsourced depending on the job we have.
Who are some of the people you’ve worked for?
We have worked with St. Matia Mulumba Church, Miracle Centre Cathedral, Trumpet Mission, Golden Lotus, Makerere University, Sports Betting Africa, plus Airtel Uganda, Warid, MTN and AMRA events.
Is this business in any way related to the course you did?
No. I pursued a Bachelors of Tourism at Makerere University. When I had just started my small workshop, computer maintenance was one of the fastest ways of getting money. I was one of the first guys to do that business around Kampala.
In every business, there are complications. What are some of the challenges you are facing in this field?
Market can sometimes be low. There have not been shows for the past two months now. Even parties like kwanjula, weddings, are difficult to come by these days. I also have a problem of clients not paying in time.
