For the Die Hard fan, the fifth installment is here and it retains Bruce Willis reprising the lead role as John McClane. The film was originally titled Die Hard 24/7. The media speculated that the film would be a crossover between the Die Hard franchise and 24 series, with Kiefer Sutherland to reprise his role as Jack Bauer alongside John McClane, but that wasn’t the case.
McClane is heading to Russia to play the fatherly role to his estranged son, Jack who just left prison but has not gotten freedom. He is caught up in crossfire of a terrorist plot.
All this is the work of Viktor Chagarin, an eminent but fraudlent official in Russia. McClane’s son has been a political prisoner and government whistleblower and was unfairly arrested. This was because a billionaire was able to spend some good money to frame him and have him imprisoned.
Now that he is out, the billionaire’s secret friend, Chagarin is charged with the task of ‘taking care’ of Jack. His father is on his way to reconnect with his son and he will not let anyone come close to him especially those who want to screw up his life again. What’s more is that McClane is a police officer and detective.
Director John Moore is the brains behind movies like 2001’s Behind Enemy Lines, 2004’s Flight of the Phoenix, 2006’s The Omen and 2008’s Max Payne.
