The music video :Mulembe Gwa Kirya – Maurice

Maurice Kirya

Maurice Kirya

Mulembe Gwa Kirya is simply a master-class of the sweet vintage times as will be seen in the future with its black and white speed varying shots of a cast that includes Maurice Kirya and many with whom they have trailed the musical path. It is shot in complete black and white to show the future about the past…which is the present.

Shot by FrameWorx and Market Makerz of Uganda and MT Productions (SA), the video captures those exciting moments in Kirya’s career. Such moments include times when his music puts smiles and brings out emotions as he performs for thousands at a concert.

The colour and lighting was simply the right choice as it portrayed the message of the song.  Some of the best bits in the song include Maurice Kirya in boxer shots while seated on the laps of his grannie.  Not to be forgotten is the beginning which, features Kirya getting a clean shaven trim and losing his luxuriant shaggy hair.

The choreography fits the music, picture quality is perfect and the message is for one to tap their feet and feel proud of having belonged to the revolutionary times ushered in by the afro-soul aka Mwooyo music of Maurice Kirya.

I must confess however that the video was a bit ordinary; there is nothing that catches one unawares.  But all in all, it is an artistic and beautiful video that captures the humble image of Kirya. Seeing Cindy, MC Kats and brother Vampino among the many in the video all cheering as part of the Kirya generation enhances the believability of the video.

The few contemporary dance shots were well timed –some being pulled off by Kirya on stage as he feels the music in his spirit and soul radiating out of his body. This video is made on a steady diet of emotion, memories, sweetness and the excited feeling of ‘we finally made it.’
