The music video :MPAYO AKASEERA- SYLVESTER

Silvester

Silvester

Rappers Sylvester and Ssavoo battle to earn the attention of a beautiful girl using excellent poetic and deep lyrical skills in this new video Akaseera that means a moment.

Shot by Tank/Grit, the video begins with a girl rushing out of her home, boarding a boda boda only to be interrupted by Sylvester as he asks for a moment to lay down his romantic manifesto.  The video ceases to be a music video at some points and draws similarity to the annoying Kina-Uganda movies. This happens most when they leave the lighting duties to the scorching sunlight. It all points to a video shot using multiple low-budget techniques.

However, the low-budget farce works wonders when it comes to the close shots of the rappers as they drop the rhymes.  The choreography matched the message in the song and unlike most low-budget Ugandan rap songs, this one is devoid of ghetto scenes.  Not forgetting that it’s a clean rap video.

The editing is simple yet creatively directed. It’s not a video that is bound to leave you in suspense.  It does not leave this lasting impression once it’s done. Since it’s a brand new video, it would have made sense to feature the Mpaayo Akaseera T-shirts that the rappers have made.  But it was depressing that the four minutes elapsed without a single shot of these shirts.  (Talk of pitiable visual branding).

Mpaayo Akaseera is relatively simple and it has an average impact. It is similar to homemade videos. There is nothing special, just two talented poetic rappers, asking for that crucial time to make an entrance into the girl’s heart. The girl seemed so easy to convince though, smiling at every instance- wonder why they had to plead with her.
