Did I hear Bebe Cool say Bobi Wine does not extend a big heart to anyone? Well, Mr Big Size, we got something for you. 10 years ago, Bobi Wine launched a campaign that saw him clean an area in any slum every Saturday morning. Bobi started off in Kamwokya and visited every single zone in the area before he went to Katanga, Kalerwe, Bwaise, Kisenyi, Katwe and many more slum areas.
Along the way, the initiative got a name, The Uganda Slum Dwellers Association (Usda).
Besides just cleaning different slums, the association took on other activities which include group finance savings, sensitising each other on health, HIV Aids and poverty eradication. Bobi and a few other people who he says do not wish to appear in the media have been the main funders of this association.
Last Wednesday, the association marked a decade with celebrations characterised by a free concert by Bobi and a few other artistes. The event was held at Old Kampala Secondary School grounds. Bobi re-assured his ghetto people that “It’s within their power to change their lives.” Congs USDA on making a decade!
