What’s your expertise Bob?
I’m what a layman calls a film editor. I shoot films, documentaries and all sorts of video. I studied cinematography from Switzerland with the help of a friend called Steve M who was impressed by what I could do even without having gone to school. He offered to pay for me to go study because my parents passed at an early stage.
When did the company start operating?
About a year ago but before that, I had worked with a few companies on several projects. I have handled a few projects as an individual as well. I have made documentaries for the Rwandan government, Burundi, Namibia, South Africa and I have covered events outside Africa.
How do you get these contracts?
In Rwanda I had worked with Rwanda Cinema Centre before going solo. It’s after going solo that I got the LTR (Land Tenure Regularisation) contract, I covered the whole project alone because the government had hired me as an individual. I shared some contracts with media companies across Africa for legal purposes.
What is lacking in Uganda?
A media hub, like a film house where incase a cinematographer from anywhere around the world, is coming to shoot something, it doesn’t necessitate him or her to carry cameras, or come with a cast crew or boom mics. In that case, we can share equipment and he shares his expertise too. I am working on this but it might take some time because this stuff is so costly and I don’t have any support whatsoever.
