The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, two-seater sports car. It was introduced by the German automaker Audi AG in 2006. The car was exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by Audi AG’s high performance private subsidiary company, quattro GmbH, and is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform.
In 2005, Audi announced that they would make a road car atfter the success of the Audi R8 race car. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on September 30, 2006. To produce the R8 at quattro GmbH, 70 workers fit 5,000 unique parts by hand. The factory usually produces between eight and 15 cars a day, but there is a maximum daily output of 29 cars.
There are 95 lasers, which inspect the entire car in five seconds to ensure that over 220 measurements are within 0.1 millimetres of the programmed plans. Depending on the make, the R8 has a 4.6 to 5.2 litre engine. The car costs about $150,000 (Shs375m) before tax.
