Sabrinas Pub, through their legendary weekly Karaoke Sessions, was an inspiration to many of Uganda’s top artistes of today.
But the place has been struggling to keep up with the mushrooming pubs since they stopped doing karaoke.
However, we understand that the Bombo Road-situated pub owner Hope Mukasa is getting back to the basics by resuming its ‘90s signature theme night – Karaoke Night.
The night will be running every first Saturday of the month.
To ensure that there is enough dose of inspiration Mukasa has contacted a host of stars who cut their musical teeth here to be part of the karaoke sessions.
The likes of Juliana Kanyomozi, Benon Mugumbya, Iryn Namubiru, Kuklee, and Jamal among others will each appear on a respective day.
“Each star will start with the songs they used to sing during their karaoke days and also say some inspirational words to the wannabes,” said Mukasa. “Project Fame opened my eyes and I started thinking ‘I think talent still needs the well-structured karaoke of Sabrinas.” We’ll keep it decent and professional, not be like funny karaoke shows you find in funny places.”
Hopefuls with good voices will also win themselves a contract with Mukasa’s label and record free of charge at his Bava Studios.
“Young artistes suffer to make it through and some are deceived by fake managers but we shall act as an agent for budding artistes to ensure they are taken up by genuine managers,” Mukasa added.
