One thing pundits believe has failed Ugandan music to take over the continent and the world are poor music videos.
Navio seems to have realised that first; and he went out of his way to shoot his Raw video for several millions of shillings in South Africa, a few years ago.
Raw booked a place on high rotation on MTV Base. Earlier this year, he did One and Only also in SA which is on high rotation on Trace TV and has even garnered a Channel O nomination.
The Good Lyfe Crew is arguably one of the best duos in the region but they haven’t made quite a mark on the continent. And having travelled to different parts of Africa and the world, the duo also realised they needed better videos for their music to reach and appeal to a wider audience.
The duo have been on a video shooting spree with South African-based video makers Tough Sunday Productions, the same guys doing Navio’s videos. The brains behind Tough Sunday were part of God Father Productions, who have done videos for some of Nigeria’s leading musicians like P Square, Mr Flavour, D’Banj and many more.
Good Lyfe have so far shot four videos with Tough Sunday, including the yet to be released, Fantastic, Amazing, Money and the recently released Can’t Let You Go that features Natasha Sinayobye as the video vixen.
Tough Sunday charges $10,000m (about Shs25m) for a day’s work hence the Good Lyfe have had to pay about Shs100m to the video makers.
But Mowzey and Weasel are not worried about the huge investment. “We are after good work that will take us across the world and these guys are doing just that for us. Our latest video Can’t let You Go is already playing on MTV,” Mowzey told us!
