What does MUPATDEC mean?
It comes from my dad’s names – Mukasa Patrick Derrick.
Record house, what’s that?
Record house is a sound production studio found at Salaama, where I work with a partner called producer Elly. It’s also where I produce my songs by the way, I also sing and act movies.
When did you start music production?
The studio was opened in early 2010 as Record House, but I started singing professionally early this year with a group called Neighbourhood. For acting, I started acting in school, at Emen Memorial, Makindye and later joined Nyonza Singers at National theatre but professionally, I started in 2009 with Eminence Film Production before joining Innovage, where I am currently acting from.
How much capital did you require for the studio?
It cost us about Shs10m, the owner of Innovage Films in conjunction with SPK Films teamed up and opened the studio. We had the equipment and that’s where my music group Neighbourhood does its music. Artistes like Yoyo, Batuzze, Sizza and Zone have all been to our studio and more have booked studio time, though I can’t let the cat out of the bag yet.
Any challenge?
No big challenge, though in venture, there are some mild but worrying setbacks. Musically the reception to my music is still poor because people don’t listen to English RnB. I am good at acting but Uganda’s film industry is at turtle speed, though the direction I am headed is quite promising.
