Some weeks back I attended a theme night called Kigali Nite at a joint called Hi-Table, and one of the jams that rocked the place was Take it Off … a song sung in Kinyarwanda by a Rwandan Rn’B group calling themselves Urban Boys.
How is the track? Far better than what the likes of Henry Tigan are feeding us at the moment. Produced by Washington featuring Jackie, what more do you expect? The Rwandans in the place went crazy when the DJ dropped the jam … the beautiful Rwandan chicks kept mimicking the words of the track … poor Kalumba was in heaven!! Hahahahaha….
The video too was a good look … think Coco Finger, Aziz Azion kind of video. Simple, nothing fancy with issues like camera angles and storyline being taken care of. The video also had cameos of Producer Washington in it and if the director had got us more cameos of popular Ugandan artistes in the video it would not only have increased its appeal commercially speaking, but would have guaranteed it rotation on our television channels.
At the moment the video would be classified as “foreign” by these ignorant television bosses of ours hence denying it massive rotation. But if it for example had Mowzey, Cindy doing some adlibbing, Lillian Mbabazi playing some sort of love scene with one of the artistes … then the appeal would be much stronger than it is now for the track.
Nice song. Good video.
