Fashion Tip: Keep stylishly warm

It is easy to just wrap up in anything that promises warmth in a bid to keep the cool away. But when you want to remain stylish you have to do more than that.

No one is saying go buy new season clothes like those outside country chaps. You just make sure your wardrobe has a few pieces you can combine and put together a stylish warm outfit. Here a few pointers.

Layer, layer layer: However cool it looks, we are still in Uganda. It can’t get that cold and even if it does, the sun is never far away. Which is why instead of suiting up in jackets and sweaters meant for sub-zero weather, you need to learn to layer several items, part of your everyday wear to create warmth. For one you will only have to invest in clothes you can wear all year round, and two when it gets warmer you can reduce the layers. Just make sure you put together a presentable look, it is not layering for the sake, and the purpose is to stay stylish and warm.

Have the basics for layering: It is just as great that those flat shoes are in vogue about now because they are perfect for nippier weather, and the do look great with leggings or stockings. Blazers and crop jackets too come in handy, they are now not only completing your outfit but providing much needed warmth and will almost always form the top layer of your combination. So do sweaters. Scarfs are a no brainer, they are absolutely necessary.

The trench coat is popular right now and since it is light, people have been wearing it even on not so cold days. You can tie it up over your skirt, dress, tights, and pants, suit anything and it still looks good and keeps you warm. The length that’s in is between the hip up till the knee, not any longer, with a belt and nipped in waist or fitted for girls. The ones made for boys are not bulky either and they also look good.

Use what you have: Now that you notice the weather is often more chilly than not, you need to gather your clothes for the weather as opposed to waiting for that rainy morning to scour for that huge anorak. Make sure you have some jackets, cardigans, sweaters and scarfs at the ready. Use what you have to create new looks that protect you against the cold instead of just throwing an uninspired sweater when the weather changes.
