(The spin doctor and Diana spent an afternoon mixing and remixing videos and audio music at Shiru’s shop on Zainabu Aziz Plaza, level 4)
Helloz
Hi, I’m sorry I’m late, lots of jam and you know I wake up late because I work at night.
What does being the number one Dj in Uganda feel like?
I feel happy and blessed!
Who’s your biggest inspiration because you are one to many kids.
My big bro, Dj Rotor.
Are you married?
No, but I have a girlfriend and I’m happy with one even though the religion allows me to have four.
Is that a tattoo?
Yeah, it’s a guitar just got it a few months back. I love music ,that’s why I got a guitar. I have another on the chest and it’s also a guitar.
What do you do in this office?
I do lots of stuff; mixing, production, DVD mixing and promoting young talent.
Did you learn this in school?
No actually my parents thought I was going to be a doctor, but my brother inspired me and made me love music a lot. Those days, Dj’s were looked at as bayaye or people who smoke weed which is not the case in real sense but now my parents understand and they respect what I do.
Are you intimidated by these young Dj’s?
Ummh, every Dj has his time and has something he his good at. I do what I do with a passion that’s why I’ve travelled the world and I’m very popular here. I love the fact that they are making the industry competitive. It inspires me to work extra hard.
Which countries have you been to?
I’ve been to SA, Nigeria, UK, Rwanda, TZ and Zanzibar. And I’ve met the biggest names in the league like Tim Westwood – he is the biggest in Europe.
Do you beef?
I don’t because I don’t like it. It’s people that beef me, for example, the Goodlyfe had a misunderstanding with time but it’s now resolved so we talk.
Are you doing any big projects this year?
There’s a street jam coming up, Buzz awards, Sisqo in August, there is the “Break my heart” concert of Coco Finger, Goodlyfe will be launching and Keko has a concert alongside Tiwa Savage. And other concerts as will be announced.
