So what is Tank?
Tank is a boutique, also dealing in phones, accessories and mobile money for all networks. We
sell airtime, provide pay TV subscription (Dstv, Gotv and Star Times), plus internet. We are
located in Mutungo.
What did you study?
I did Engineering, majoring in metal fabrication. However, the capital I had wasn’t sufficient to start
a fabrication workshop, so I opted for this. I was renting a verandah in 2008 and by 2009 I was able
to rent this place.
How much was your start-up capital?
Shs1.5m, but right now, my business is worth Shs15m.
Who are your regular customers?
Anyone, anybody, people come from as far as Mukono. I do deliveries for people who can’t
come to the shop.
Where do you get your clothes and the phones?
Shops all over Nairobi. I go there every weekend for new phones and clothes.
How much do you earn on a terrible and a very good day?
On a terrible day I get about Shs90,000 and on a fruitful day I get over Shs200,000, Insha Allah.
