The police said the charges stem from an incident at his St. Andrew home earlier this month. Investigators said a woman filed a police report claiming that the artiste, whose real name is Oneil Bryan sexually assaulted her.
The police said detectives assigned to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse conducted investigations, which led to Elephant Man being arrested on Tuesday.
They said he was questioned in the presence of his attorney on Monday and then later charged with grievous sexual assault and rape. The singer was in the country in December last year, but he did not perform after organisers failed to fully settle his performance fees. However, the singer left a collabo, Nice and Polite, with Peter Miles whose video was released last week.
Elephant Man was set to appear in court on Wednesday.
