How did you settle for Ak-cess Media for your company name and what does it do?
It was really just a bit of word play and logic. I wanted to start an agency that represented easy accessibility to the masses and it just so happened that my initials could fit right into the anagram – so I thought, why not Ak-cess? We are a 360 degree advertising agency.
When did you start it?
I started full blown operations in March 2011 but I had the concept on paper since May 2010.
How was it like starting out?
It was messy – very messy! This was my second time branching out on my own but I still had no idea of what I was getting myself into. I was equipped with all the business fundamentals I had gained from school but it tends to be a whole different ball game when you have to put theory to practice.
Where did you get the idea?
I grew up a very big fan of advertising. I was always caught up in the whole battle between Pepsi and Coca Cola as a child and to this day I still have trouble exactly choosing where my loyalty falls.
How much did you inject in your business?
I started with less than Shs2m.
Who are some of the clients?
Most are friends, acquaintances and connections from people I have done work for before. They include Matoke Tours, This is Uganda Foundation, This is Uganda Festival, Smirnoff White Noise Parties, Iguana Bar, KadAfrica and Exclusive Wines.
Who do you look up to for inspiration, and why?
It is definitely my mother. She has molded me into every bit of man I am today with just one phrase – never give up.
