Comedian Salvador Idringi last week laughed all the way to the bank after the third season of Africa Laughs. This was after the show sold out.
Those who never attended of course missed out on the talent of Zimbabwe’s Carl Ncube, Nigeria’s Bovi, South Africa’s Ndumiso Lindi among others. Local talent was represented by Mad Rat and Chicco, Pablo, Alex Muhangi, Emmah Napoleon and Bright Onak. Yes, there was a comedian called Bright Onak and he was funny too.
Now his 15 minutes on stage have come into question.
This is because a day after the show, rumours spread faster than the wind that the hitherto unknown comedian paid Salvador Shs1m to fix him on the night’s programme. Yes, people can spread malicious rumours like that.
However, Bright Onak said he is Salvador’s good friend and he can never pay him to perform at any event. “People only misquoted me when I said that the Comedy Industry in Uganda has a lot of politics. I only said I wasn’t on the list of performers but it would be easy for me to perform on that day,” Onak said.
He went on and said luck was on his side when Salvador fixed him on the list to replace Pablo Kimuli who had a show at National Theatre. “I performed in the place of Pablo, who later on showed up after I was done.”
